The excellent abilities of chabazite, a natural zeolite, as absorbents, ion-exchangers and heat-exchangers are closely related to the interactions between water molecules in the cavities and their neighboring chemical species. We conducted the high-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction study of a natural chabazite to gain knowledge of the magnitude of the interactions. Consequently, we elucidated the dehydration behavior in the cavities and the migration behavior of extra-framework cation accompanying the dehydration.
