We investigated the phase transitions in bismuth at high pressures and high temperatures using the multi-anvil press and the synchrotron X-ray diffraction technique. The stability of each phase was identified by observing the powdered X-ray diffraction data. The transition pressure between Bi-III and Bi-V determined in our study was 7.6 GPa at room temperature, which was in general agreement with that observed in previous high-pressure experiments.
