The use of chelating agents has been reported to enhance the dissolution rate of silicate minerals. In this study, basic dissolution experiments of silicate minerals with plant metabolites, which are naturally occurring chelating agents, were conducted. As a result, certain elements were extracted by plant metabolites. Also in pH, all solutions containing plant metabolites were partially elevated due to the dissolution of silicates. This result could be expected to suppress ocean acidification and sequester CO2 due to pH increase and CO2 mineralization.
