[ESY1-1]Advanced Techniques in Single-Port Robotic Esophageal Surgery

Prof. Dr. Peter Grimminger is Senior Consultant and Head of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Robotic Surgery in the Department of General, Visceral and Transplantation Surgery at the University Medical Center Mainz, Germany.

In recognition of his achievements and pioneering work in robotic-assisted surgery, he was appointed University Professor for Robotic Surgery at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 2023.

Prof. Grimminger is internationally recognized for his expertise in robotic esophageal and upper gastrointestinal surgery and serves as Head of the international Case Observation Center for Robotic Surgery in Mainz. As an official proctor for Intuitive Surgical
, he is actively involved in teaching and training robotic surgery across Europe.

Since April 2025, Prof. Grimminger has been using the da Vinci Single Port(SP)robotic platform in Mainz as the first general surgeon in Europe. Since 2024, he has performed over 150 da Vinci SP esophagectomies and also served as a proctor for da Vinci SP surgery and offers international case observations and training programs for SP esophagectomy and advanced upper GI procedures.

In addition, Prof. Grimminger is a member of the advisory board for Medicaroid Corporation
/ Kawasaki and several other medical robotics companies.

Prof. Grimminger is an Honorary Fellow of the Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons(FACS), Honorary Fellow of the European Board of Surgery(FEBS), and an active member of numerous national and international surgical societies, including the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract(SSAT), European Association for Endoscopic Surgery(EAES), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chirurgie(DGCH), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Allgemein- und Viszeralchirurgie(DGAV), and American Society of Clinical Oncology(ASCO).

His scientific and clinical research activities focus on surgical oncology, robotic surgery, and translational cancer research. To date, Prof. Grimminger has authored and co-authored more than 150 original articles published in peer-reviewed international journals(NEJM, BJS, AnnSurg...).
