 We - GTP-GEEKS - are focusing on GTP, a fundamental energy source, to develop new treatments for cancer and metabolic diseases. GTP plays a critical role in protein synthesis and signal transduction, and abnormalities in its metabolism have been linked to several diseases. In particular, our discovery of the GTP sensor PI5P4Kβ has shed light on how intracellular GTP levels influence pathological conditions.

In this exhibit, we will present the new functions of GTP that we have uncovered and discuss their potential applications in cancer and metabolic diseases. Our research is being advanced in collaboration with experts in structural biology, drug discovery, and omics analysis, among others. Through this booth, we are looking for new collaborators and researchers interested in GTP metabolism. Observe the shape and behavior of proteins in solution samples without any special preparation. ‘MoleQlyze’ makes this unimaginable world a reality.

Detailed 3D structures of proteins can be obtained through X-ray crystallography or single-particle analysis using cryo-electron microscopy. However, the results from these methods do not always accurately reflect the actual conditions and characteristics of the solution under which the proteins function. If we can observe the characteristics of proteins in solution without special pretreatment, our understanding of their actual states and properties across various solution conditions will be significantly advanced.

This exhibition showcases the ‘MoleQlyze’ device, which enables the observation of proteins in solution, along with the molecular shapes and behaviors revealed through its use.

At the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG), we breed naturally aged mice and rats for gerontology and geriatrics research. We breed our mice and rats under appropriate environmental conditions and low-stress levels. We provide healthy, aged animals with a low incidence of inflammation or pathologies associated with behavioral alterations. From the end of 2022, we have also started providing aged animals from 18 months of age to external research institutions.
