Low-temperature tempering improves martensitic steel plasticity, but its effect on local deformation remains unclear. Using HR-DIC, EBSD, and in-situ ECCI, this study shows that tempering promotes homogeneous strain distribution and that cementite regulates local boundary-mediated deformation.
