The morphological evolution of eutectic Si in hypoeutectic Al-Si cast alloy during heat treatment was quantitatively evaluated by 3D microstructural analysis using serial sectioning. The results suggest that spheroidization of eutectic Si proceeds under atomic diffusion induced by difference of curvature on the particle surface.
