The effect of Fe cation valence on Cr–Fe–Ni alloy electrodeposition was examined in an ionic liquid–water mixed bath. The Fe²⁺ bath produced Fe-rich/O-rich deposits, whereas the Fe³⁺ bath yielded a low-crystallinity metallic phase with a near-MEA composition.
