The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of differences in the crystal structure of the compound layer and stress concentration in test specimens on the fatigue limit of nitrided steel. Based on hardness and residual stress distribution, a fatigue limit prediction method applicable to both smooth and notched specimens was developed.
