This presentation outlines the mechanisms by which hydrogen addition enhances the strength and ductility of Fe–Cr–Ni–Mn–Al quinary austenitic steels, and discusses a design concept for Cr- and Ni-reduced austenitic steels that positively utilize hydrogen.
