In a kink-strengthened bimodal Mg alloys, coarse grains serve not only as carriers of plastic deformation but also exhibit a high strengthening capability. This study analyzes slip activity, stress partitioning, and strain evolution within coarse grains to elucidate mechanism by which they become both strong and plastically deformable.
