Anion redox reactions provide a strategy for developing high-energy-density Li battery cathodes. Li3BN2 undergoes phase decomposition upon Li extraction due to hole localization in its one-dimensional framework, whereas three-dimensional Li3AlN2 remains stable during Li extraction.
