Extruded Mg-Al-Y shows an unconventional LPSO-bimodal structure: hard layered LPSO CG avoid typical softening, UFG provides high strength and good strain hardening, enabling high strength and good plasticity. Deformation mechanisms are probed via macro/micro mechanical tests and electron microscopy.
