Learn the origins of the land and face the natural disaster

Local resident's understanding and agreement as well as a central government, a local government and a related enterprise are indispensable in order to promote sustainable regional development and social overhead capital by establishing both disaster prevention and environmental protection. In this lecture, I will speak about the importance of knowing the advantage and the weakness from the origins of the land in which the people live there and facing the natural disaster, introducing an outreach activity of our Society.

Since FY2008, JpGU organized the Environment and Disaster Coping Committee and tried to cope with various environmental and hazardous issues. The 2011 Off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake clearly showed us real great damages caused by combined effect of environment and disaster. In this session, we will share our past activities related with major disasters, and will discuss how JpGU will organize the framework to enhance the real cooperation among different associations and how JpGU will cooperate with Japan Academic Network for Disaster Reduction to be established in 2016. All the presentations will be made by speakers nominated by each association.
