In the presentation, globalization of Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) is going to be discussed as a member. Although activities of JpGU is broad, JpGU annual meeting and academic publishing are considered as the key pillars. Also, the necessity of globalization on these two have been emphasized. On academic publishing, journal PEPS has been started on 2014 supported by Grant-in-Aid for Publication of Scientific Research Results "Enchancement of International Dissemination of Information" of JSPS. In addition, Impact Factor 2017 has been given to the journal and its future is promising. JpGU meeting was jointly organized successfully with AGU in 2017 and the next JpGU-AGU meeting will be held in 2020. Although globalization of JpGU meeting has been promoted, Japanese language is also considered as important. The burden on the participants and organizers of the meeting by the requirements both in English and Japanese cannot be ignored. Also, there seems to be a barrier in inviting researchers to JpGU meeting from abroad, where number of international sessions and attendees are limited. Number of international meetings on geosciences has been increasing and relative importance of JpGU meeting in the world is decreasing. Thus, the meaning of globalization for JpGU and significant increase of the number of English sessions (or significant decrease of the number of Japanese sessions) of JpGU meeting will be discussed.
