This session is held as a joint JpGU-AGU Union session. What is the role of geoscientists? Do we really need geoscientists? And if so how to foster vocations among young generations? We anticipate that this special session will be particularly stimulating, as they will provide useful comparisons of a single situation in two communities with different educational and societal contexts. The 1st and 2nd sessions were held at JpGU 2016, AGU 2016 Fall Meeting.
