The cost-effective synthesis of nanosized zeolites with high catalytic performance remains challenging for industrial applications. This study reports synthesis and crystallization behaviours of nanosized Al-rich MFI zeolite via hydrothermal conversion of FAU using self-pillared pentasil (SPP) seeds, without an inorganic structure-directing agent. For comparison, conventional MFI zeolites were prepared using amorphous silica-alumina precursors along with TPAOH-derived seeds. Characterization confirmed successful formation of highly crystalline MFI zeolites. Both routes yielded highly crystalline MFI with plate- or rod-like nanocrystals forming aggregated particles. Catalytic tests using 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene also showed superior activity and stability for SPP(FAU), attributed to enhanced mesoporosity and external surface area.
