Occlusion,TMD,Orofacial Pain
Orofacial pain is defined as “pain localized to the region above the neck, in front of the ears, and below the orbitomeatal line, as well as pain within the oral cavity, including pain of dental origin and temporomandibular disorders (TMD).” Since the beginning of the current millennium, evidence-based dental research has significantly evolved and expanded in the fields of orofacial pain, TMD, and occlusion.
This lecture will offer a comprehensive overview of these three dental disciplines, presenting an evidence-based and contemporary update on their diagnostic and clinical interrelationships. For patients presenting with orofacial pain or TMD concerns, thorough examinations, evaluations, differential diagnoses, and prognoses are cornerstones to delivering high-quality contemporary care. Additionally, the diagnostic and treatment recommendations that promote interdisciplinary collaboration within the dental profession and multidisciplinary cooperation across healthcare professions will be addressed.
