Therapeutic implications for changes in emotional contagion and empathy in a depressive mouse model

Accumulating evidence in modern society indicates that changes in the daily environment can contribute to the development of depression by altering the neural circuits that regulate emotional functions. This symposium will highlight and discuss recent advances in basic and clinical research into how diverse life events, stressors and environmental factors can lead to depressive symptoms and emotional changes. Topics include clinical findings on the effects of dietary habits and childbirth, animal models such as social stress, the social transfer of pain, and empathy-like behaviors, and emerging possibilities for developing new antidepressant therapeutics.
