Blog writing is known to reflect authors’ characteristics, yet little attention has been paid to whether readers’ blog reading histories reflect reader characteristics. This study constructs a reader–blog network based on reading histories and examines whether parents with high parenting stress can be detected from this network. Participants were 980 Japanese parents using the Ameba platform and raising at least one child under 18. They completed the Parental Stress Scale–Short Form and were classified into a high (n = 425) or low (n = 555) parenting-stress group. We analyzed 881,354 blog posts read over three months and 1,262,033 links between participants and posts. Compared with the low-stress group, parents in the high-stress group read significantly more content containing indicators of negative emotions, family-related negative affect, and posts characterized by marital dissatisfaction, parenting difficulties, and self-criticism. Using the participant–post network enabled detection of parents with high parenting stress with moderate accuracy. Conceptualizing blog reading as a reader–blog network demonstrates the methodological feasibility of early identification of elevated parenting stress, without implying the provision of any actual screening or intervention service.
