[16a-C32-10] Correlation of photoelastic and elastic constants of barium lanthanum silicate glasses

Oxide glasses containing Ba²⁺ and La³⁺, which have high electronic polarizability and large ionic radii, have small photoelastic constant. In particular, silicate glasses with sufficient optical and mechanical properties are promising candidates for applications as optical glasses. In this talk, we will examine the correlation between the photoelastic constant and the elastic constant of barium lanthanum silicate glass, and discuss its potential as a polarization-controlled optical glass for use in devices such as projectors.
