Nanowires and nanocrystals, which are semiconductor nanostructures, are expected to develop new physical properties depending on their dimensionality and size. They are expected to be applied to semiconductor electronic and optical devices, thermoelectric devices, chemical and biosensors, etc. Research on various semiconductor materials has been reported. In this presentation, I report our results on nanowire FETs formed from Si, Ge and their heterojunctions and their applications to solar cells with pn junctions inside nanowires.
