The two-body interactive force in molten metal was analyzed by AFM. Strong attractive forces were observed between the tungsten (W) tip and the mica substrate, whereas the Pt tip-mica substrate exhibited weaker attraction than the W tip-mica substrate pair. Additionally, strong long-range repulsive forces were detected between the Pt tip and the Au substrate. These observations were well explained by our theory based on the hydrophobic (mica, W) and hydrophilic (Pt, Au) properties of the tips and substrates.
