In recent years, remarkable developments have been seen in the device applications of single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs). In particular, field-effect transistors (FETs), which require pure semiconductor single-walled CNT with specific chirality, are discussed. One-dimensional heterostructure is a technology that significantly expands the potential of single-wall CNTs for device applications. The recent development of 1D van der Waals heterostructures, in which boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) are synthesized on the outer layer of single-walled CNTs, and transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) nanotubes are synthesized on this outer layer, will be discussed.
