In this study, Fe-substituted samples were prepared for Ba8Ga16Ge30 clathrate and their thermoelectric properties were investigated to search for the possibility of new element substitution. In Fe-substituted samples, the electrical conductivity increased and the Seebeck coefficient decreased, but the effective mass increased, compared with Ba8Ga16Ge30. It is suggested that the thermoelectric performance will be enhanced if the carrier concentration can be decreased by fixing the amount of Fe substitution with the increased effective mass and by controlling the Ga/Ge ratio.
