A flat-type retroreflector for diverging wave emitted from a semiconductor optical amplifier was investigated to construct an external cavity laser without a lens. The retroreflection is generated by utilizing a resonance of a Bloch surface wave supported by a dielectric multilayer. The retroreflector of operation wavelength of 1550 nm was designed. The multilayer was constructed by SiO2 and a-Si:H. The aperture size and the focal length were set to 31 um and 67 um, respectively. The maximum retro-reflectance of 87% was predicted by FDTD simulation
