Composite spheres of silica/organic molecules,Whispering gallery mode optical resonation

Whispering gallery mode optical resonators created by self-assembly process are reported. These are free-standing in solution phase. Here, we created free-standing composite spheres as powder state with functions of WGM emissions, which were fabricated by simple method; mixing of silica spheres and luminescent organic molecules. This fabrication methodology was applicable for both polymers and small molecules. Furthermore, around 5 nm of WGM resonation peak shift was confirmed by toluene vapor exposure. The peak position wavelength was returned after removing toluene, resulted in a suggestion of reversible sensing function for the fabricated spheres.
