Unidirectional lasing is essential for developing ring resonator lasers that directly emit topological optical beams like optical vortexes and skyrmions. We fabricated and characterized ring resonators with periodic surface gratings and an S-shaped waveguide. Counter-propagating whispering gallery modes are observed with significant suppression of the unintended mode, achieving unidirectional lasing with a 6-fold intensity contrast, despite the scattering from surface graters.
