We are carrying out the investigation into photonics-electronics convergence-type logical gate and computing circuits that are mainly composed of a slab star coupler-type optical discrete Fourier transform (DFT) circuit. This DFT circuit can simultaneously process multibit digital optical signals. As an example of our investigation, I explain the operating principle and obtained characteristics of an optical exclusive OR (XOR) circuit that is applicable to encoding/decoding and error detection of signals.
