Hydrogels absorb aqueous solutions and can be applied to detect ions in aqueous solutions by incorporating fluorescent particles. In this study, we attempted to fabricate carbon dots (CDs), which exhibit fluorescence, by laser irradiation of hydrogels. We confirmed that the formed structure contains graphitic carbon and the structure exhibits fluorescence. It is suggested that CDs are fabricated by laser irradiation of the hydrogel.
