Terahertz waves are expected to be used in various fields, including telecommunications, biomedicine, and nondestructive testing and evaluation. However, slow progress in developing optical elements that control the amplitude, phase, or polarization of terahertz waves has hindered the advancement of terahertz technology. In this study, we addressed this challenge by developing low-cost, easily accessible metallic helix microstructures. These microstructures make it possible to fabricate optical components, such as circular polarizers and filters working in the terahertz frequency region.
