A high-speed spatial light modulator (SLM) with an over GHz bandwidth is expected for many applications such as optical interconnects and imaging. Recently, free-space modulators based on organic electro-optic (OEO) materials have attracted much attention. However, they suffer from issues in terms of efficiency, loss, and/or modulation speed. In this talk, a high-efficiency, low-loss silicon-organic hybrid spatial light modulator is proposed and numerically verified using FDTD simulation. Furthermore, a miniaturization method of the device is proposed for high-speed operation, and its effectiveness is also demonstrated.
