Ag-doped zeolites exhibit strong photoluminescence (PL) when heated or otherwise treated. We have focused on Ag clusters formed in zeolites and have attempted to elucidate the PL mechanism by X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and infrared absorption (IR) measurements. In the present study, we have attempted to clarify the PL behavior when the number of Ag substitutions is reduced in order to gain a foothold in clarifying the Ag-coordinated PL sites. In addition, we will discuss the fact that the PL intensity changes due to clustering do not coincide with the cluster formation/decay process.
