In this article, we report our investigation on third harmonic generation (THG) in the terahertz (THz) regime using double resonant frequency selective surface composed of periodic square-shaped single complementary split ring resonators. The efficiency of the THG process is appreciably increased by matching the fundamental and third harmonic frequencies with the resonance of our designed metasurface structure. This alignment leads to energy confinement during both the excitation at fundamental frequency (FF) and the radiation at third harmonic (TH). The efficient generation of the TH radiation occurs mainly in vertical directions when a plane wave, incident normally, is strongly influenced by a powerful magnetic resonance at the fundamental pump wavelength and a well-defined mode at the harmonic wavelength.
