近年，データ中継衛星システムだけでなく、月などの深宇宙、低軌道衛星コンステレーションなどの様々なシチュエーションにて衛星間光通信が実現されている。衛星間光通信システムは従来の電波による通信と比べ広帯域，小型軽量，周波数免許が不要といった利点を有するため、今後の更なる活用が期待されている。本講演では、衛星間光通信の開発動向や、現状の課題などについて報告する。
