Surface-enhance Raman spectroscopy,Electromagnetic mechanism,Chemical mechanism

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) represents a powerful extension of conventional Raman spectroscopy, a label-free analytical technique renowned for its ability to resolve sharp vibrational signatures of analyte molecules. Two predominant mechanisms are widely acknowledged to underpin SERS: the electromagnetic (EM) and chemical mechanisms. In this study, we present a comparative evaluation of metal-based and metal-free SERS substrates. We have developed a novel metal nanomesh substrate, which operates on the EM mechanism, as well as metal-free SERS substrates that harness the chemical mechanism. These substrates are assessed in terms of sensitivity, uniformity, and additional performance metrics.
