To establish a non-invasive and quantitative diagnostic method for dry eye, our group has been investigating the detection of changes in ocular surface moisture content using diffuse reflectance measurements with near-infrared LEDs. To date, we have constructed a system that uses optical fibers for both light irradiation and detection, and have successfully detected moisture changes at one-second intervals in porcine corneas. In this paper, we aimed to improve measurement sensitivity by introducing a system that emits light directly into space, thereby reducing coupling loss between the LED and the fiber.
