CrWO4, a double rutile-type oxide, possesses a one-dimensional ordered structure in which CrO6 octahedral chains and WO6 octahedral chains are edge-sharing along the b-axis (corresponding to the c-axis in the simple rutile structure); consequently, unique electronic states and physical properties are anticipated. Although it has been reported that polycrystalline CrWO4 is an antiferromagnetic insulator, the details of its physical properties, including crystallographic anisotropy, and electronic states remain unknown due to the lack of examples of bulk single-crystal synthesis. In this study, we attempted to synthesize and characterize single-crystal thin films of CrWO4 via epitaxial growth.
