Our laboratory has previously demonstrated a novel optical manipulation technique that overcomes the limitations of conventional focusing optics by utilizing optical forces generated through light control with nanostructures. More recently, we have been investigating the attitude stabilization of objects using the highly efficient light manipulation enabled by dielectric metasurfaces. This technology is expected to contribute to light-driven systems for space applications, such as laser propulsion. Experimental verification of attitude-stabilizing metasurfaces requires a highly accurate evaluation method. To address this challenge, we have developed a full three-dimensional measurement technique for optical forces and torques acting on nanostructures. In this presentation, we report the design and fabrication of metasurface structures compatible with this nanophotonic force measurement method.
