Noble gas atoms have been utilized as useful nonlinear optical media in the short-wavelength range. However, their properties as optical media have not been sufficiently investigated using past laser technologies, and there is still room for further research. Through four-wave mixing wavelength conversion using xenon as the medium, we aim to re-examine the properties of noble gas atoms as optical media and report on the results and insights obtained to date.
