Keywords:
coherent beam combining,beam alignment
In many advanced applications, aligning multiple laser beams within a restricted area with ultra-high angular precision (~ micro-rad) is challenging. In this presentation, we will discuss the efficiency degradation of coherent beam combining (CBC) caused by multiple-beam alignment mismatch (centering and pointing). A new method for pointing adjustment and control in CBC will be presented, quantitatively elucidated, and demonstrated experimentally. It is estimated that an accuracy of up to 1/50th of the diffraction-limited divergence (DLD) angle can be achieved.
