[10a-PB1-2]Organic Solar Cells Enhancement Through Synergetic Incorporation of Plasmonic and Antireflection Structures

In this study, a simple and cost-effective strategy is proposed for improving charge carrier collection and light absorption in the active layer of P3HT:PC61BM-based OSCs via incorporation of Ag NPs in the electron transport layer (ETL) and commercially available antireflection moth-eye (ARM) film on the ITO substrate. The incorporation of Ag NPs and ARM film improve the device performance by up to 12.10% compared to the pristine device, as shown in J-V curves in Fig. 1. The improved device performance due to the incorporation of Ag NPs is originated from plasmonic enhanced light absorption of active layer [1] which was confirmed by absorption spectra and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation as shown in Fig. 2. While further device enhancement with the ARM film is contributed to the increased light transmission of ITO substrate [2]. Moreover, the remarkable efficiency enhancement due to the ARM film is observed at a high incident angle of light as shown in Fig. 3. This is attributed to effective suppression of s-polarized light reflection at the air/glass interface due to the ARM film. This study demonstrated that incorporating of Ag NPs and ARM film in OSCs is an effective strategy for improving device performance.
