Cell membranes dynamically change their membrane area, thickness, and ion permeability in response to electrical stimulation. In this study, we built an experimental system for simultaneous measurement of membrane capacitance and area to evaluate the frequency-dependent hysteresis response of artificial cell membranes. Upon application of a transmembrane electric field, both membrane capacitance and area increased reversibly, and a memcapacitive response was observed under specific frequency conditions. These results indicate that artificial cell membranes can serve as a physical substrate for reservoir computing.
