As a smart safety technology for solar power generation facilities, we are advancing the use of PL (photoluminescence) inspection, which enables the simultaneous visualization of solar module failures across an entire solar power plant site, allowing for highly accurate and easy detection. When sunlight strikes a solar cell, electrons and holes are generated within the semiconductor. While most of these are extracted to the outside to form an electric current, not all carriers are extracted even during MPPT operation; some recombine and emit PL light. Therefore, we have devised a method to acquire PL images during power generation while the system is exposed to sunlight, without requiring the circuit to be switched on or off.
