Exceptional points, which are unique to non-Hermitian systems, have attracted considerable attention as a novel principle for controlling light because of their distinctive property of eigenstate coalescence. In our previous work, using an analysis of coupled-resonator systems, we demonstrated that chiral modes carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) can be induced by generating an asymptotic exceptional point from a Hermitian degeneracy. In this study, we classify the complex perturbation patterns required to generate asymptotic exceptional points and propose design guidelines for chiral eigenstates toward applications in integrated photonic functionalities.
