As computing technologies continue to expand as a form of social infrastructure, there is growing interest in optical computing as a technology that can contribute to reducing power consumption, an urgent challenge in modern computing. In this talk, I will review recent trends in the convergence of computing and communications, as well as in optical computing, and discuss the potential application of light to AI and other computing technologies, together with the role of optical device technologies in realizing them.
