Soft organic semiconductors enable the fabrication of electronic devices by solution-coating processes. Recent developments in molecules that self-organize into layered structures, together with advances in solution coating techniques, have made it possible to control molecular ordering over macroscopic length scales. These advances have led to organic field-effect transistors with ultraclean semiconductor/dielectric interfaces that exhibit extremely sharp switching at low voltages. In this presentation, we will overview our recent studies, focusing on control of layered molecular ordering, sharp switching in organic transistors, and their application to the detection of minute surface charges of soft piezo electrics.
