We propose the concept of optical coherent baseband processing, which enables the processing of complex baseband signals directly in the optical domain, toward the realization of wideband wireless receivers for next-generation communication systems.We also present a coherent RF-optical receiver architecture that allows complex linear processing in the optical domain. Furthermore, numerical simulations using 60-GHz, 2-Gbaud, 16-QAM signal demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
