We demonstrate simultaneous multistep rovibrational excitation and orientation of rotational angular momentum in gas-phase CO2 using circularly polarized mid-infrared pulses. Excitation up to at least (V=3) was confirmed. Polarization-controlled 2D-IR spectroscopy revealed circular dichroism in individual rotational lines, from which the range of the orientation parameter in (V=3) was evaluated. This method enables simultaneous control of vibrational excitation and the direction of rotational angular momentum in electronically ground-state molecules.
