Advances in laser technology and optical wavefront shaping have expanded the use of higher-order spatial modes, such as Hermite–Gaussian (HG) and Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) modes, in various fields. In higher-order spatial modes of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), orthogonal HG modes split due to cavity anisotropy, and polarization eigenstates are further formed within each spatial mode. In this study, with the aim of controlling the polarization of higher-order spatial modes in VCSELs, we investigated the influence of polarization degrees of freedom on spatial phase structures.
